Desgin innovative gantry crane using steel and aluminium alloy

Constructions and Design Engineering

The research focuses on the study and design of an innovative crane with high versatility for the transport of both bulk materials and containers. It is built as a gantry crane, and on it is positioned a loader that can take on different configurations and so load conditions. The maximum capacity (payload) is equal to 350 kN. The last part of the research involved the implementation of the loader arms (stick and boom) and the related actuating cylinders made of a specific aluminum alloy. This assumption allowed a significant weight reduction of the machine elemants. Specifically, the weight of the boom and the stick, in the steel configuration, is approximately 21.000 kg and 6.100 kg; in the aluminum configuration, the weight becomes about 11.250 kg and 3.350 kg for the boom and the stick, respectively.
