Critical collapse pressure of flexible risers in deep/ultra-deep water – a literature review

The recent advances on collapse studies of flexible risers are reviewed. Collapse refers to buckling of the riser structure caused by excessive hydraulic pressure, which has been a primary challenge facing the riser operators due to the constant push from oil & gas industry to extend deepwater exploitation beyond 3000 m. Riser collapse is a complex phenomenon related to the material properties, the geometry of the pipe and its overall surface topography and, therefore, leads to inherent unpredictability of the exact collapse pressure. This paper concentrates on the predictive techniques of collapse pressure of flexible riser in ultra-deepwater fields and the current gaps that exist in offshore technology, aiming to help develop ever more lightweight designs while keeping required collapse strength and be a baseline for future utilization of flexible risers in deeper water expansion.

Host city and venue - Vienna

Vienna (Wien) is the federal capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primate city, with a population of about 1.9 million (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, nearly one third of Austria's population), and its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union.  Read more...
