Section: Logistics and Intralogistics Systems
Abstract: The haulage of lightweight goods refers to the situation whereby, although its density means that the load fills the cargo area, the carrying capacity of conventional long-distance trucks is not exploited by far. Based on specific data, the idea is to clarify in general to what extent ultra-light trucks of 11.99t and extra long trucks with a total weight of 40t present an ecologically advantageous alternative to the articulated lorries and drawbar combinations which have been introduced in Germany. A calculation model for determining the fuel consumption from the effective motion resistances is drawn up. Fuel consumption rates for jumbo drawbar combinations and extra long trucks determined in comparative field trials conclude the effective medium wayside parameters. For their part, these are determining the fuel consumptions of articulated trucks and ultra-light trucks. Now the foundations are given for calculating the (ecological) break even points of the pallet weight in comparisons in pairs. These represent the foundations for the establishment of specific pallet weight classes and the recommendation pertaining to which of the considered truck configurations is ideal for the haulage of such.
