Section: Maritime and Port Logistics
Abstract: The goal of this paper is to investigate the theories that foretell significant decline in containerisation in near future and the impact on the ports and maritime industry. By providing the comparison of containerisation decline theories and global megatrends, the paper introduces sensible predictions for the future of container ports. The theory of Kondratieff waves in containerisation is compared with analysis of short, mid and long megatrends that effect containerisation. Calling for the attention are the transitions in sustainability trends that can influence ports and maritime logistics. Highlighting the shifting from green to smart port, the paper compares the contemporary port sustainability with emerging technologies from other industries imposed to the logistics sector. It this way forecast for the container port development by 2030 is given.
