Section: Logistics and Intralogistics Systems
Abstract:Test stands are an expensive option in the development process of conveying equipment. Therefore this paper focuses on simulation methods to simulate the singulation processes of large numbers of parcels. A classification for different singulation strategies is introduced. One of these strategies has been chosen for validating the DEM for the simulation of conveying processes. Therefore the motion behaviour of two parcels on a belt conveyor with deflectors was analysed. The results of the test stand are compared to the results of a DEM simulation.

In respect of specific application fields the DEM is compared to the multibody simulation (MBS). Several aspects and the potential of using these methods in the context of simulating conveying equipment are shown.
